If your child is at least 4 years old, has a passion for dance, and is interested in taking their skills to the next level, we recommend they join LMD Dance Academy’s competition team. We are passionate in helping our dancers reach their goals and achieve their dreams in dance. Your child will learn the value of teamwork, gain confidence on and off stage, and make new friends. It is important to understand that being a part of our team requires a higher level of commitment and expectations. Competition dancers have to be dedicated to the team and have a positive mindset to learn and grow. Dancers will be motivated and challenged by teachers and peers to reach their goals. As a parent, it is so rewarding to witness the joy and excitement when your child achieves their goals and is awarded for their hard-work and dedication.
Auditions
If you are interested in joining our competition team, we will have auditions on Saturday, June 15, 2024. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to push themselves and achieve their goals; therefore, we do not tell anyone they cannot be a part of our team. We use this audition as an assessment to see where your child is as a dancer and learn the best ways that we can help them moving forward. Auditions will be split into 2 groups: ages 4-9 will be 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM and ages 10 & up will be 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM. During this time, dancers will show-off their skills and technique through various stretches, across the floor combinations, and a dance routine that will be taught to them.
Parent Meeting/Practices
After auditions, all dancers will be invited to join our team. If you decide to accept our invitation, or if you have more questions before deciding, we will have a parent meeting at the studio on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM (dancers are not required to be there). Practices will begin the first week of July and will be two days a week through the month of July (days and times will be determined once we know the range of ages on our team). Practice days and times will be determined for the fall & spring once we have our recreational dance schedule complete.
Time & Financial Commitment
Joining our competition team is a significant time and financial commitment for dancers and parents. Practices begin in July and continue through May of the following year. Competitions are normally January-May, and we will compete in 4-5 competitions within those months. Last season, we competed in 4 competitions: two in Baton Rouge, one in Lafayette, and one in Biloxi. When we travel for competitions, you are responsible for the cost of your room (if you decide to stay overnight) and any expenses for the weekend.
The competition fee is $2,500/dancer. This price includes the cost of tuition, two group dances (including competition entry fees and costume fees for each group dance), a team jacket, and any additional attire we purchase for the team. Competition dancers are required to participate in both group dances and will have the option to participate in additional dances (solo, duo, etc.). Solos will be an additional $750/dancer, and duos/trios will be an additional $600/dancer. These prices include competition entry fees for additional dances, costume fee, choreography fee, and unlimited practices. We are willing to setup a payment plan that works best for you; however, the full amount must be paid-up by the end of May. If you choose to pay the full amount all at once, you will receive 5% off your total cost.
Recreational Class Requirements
Competition dancers ages 4-6 are welcomed to participate in our recreational dance classes, but it is not required. Ages 7 & up are required to take our recreational ballet class, but any additional classes are optional. All dancers will be required to perform competition dances at the annual dance recital. If you have any questions, you can email lmddanceacademy@yahoo.comfor more information.
Most importantly, they will have fun and enjoy being a part of our team!!
